“The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever.” (Revelation 11:15)
Everything on earth is temporary. It will pass sooner or later. Countless kingdoms have already risen and disappeared. Even heaven and earth will pass away. Hebrews 1:12 says that God will roll them up like a cloak and change them, as if He were putting new clothes on His creation.
But Jesus’ kingdom is different from earthly kingdoms. It remains “for all eternity.” It will be there even when this earth no longer exists, because then there will be a new earth where God will dwell with men. Jesus’ kingdom slowly but surely takes shape, like a tree that begins as a small plant and grows bigger and bigger. More and more people are added as “citizens” of this Kingdom by accepting Jesus as their Lord and Savior. There are also still many people and spiritual powers who oppose His government. But on the day when Jesus returns to judge the world, His Kingdom will break through once and for all. Then all opposition will be overcome. Then Satan will be destroyed. Then God will be all in all. And because we firmly believe that these promises of God will become true, we can already pray confidently, “For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever.” (Matthew 6:13)
