Come and worship the King!

For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” (Matthew 2:2)

The “wise men from the east” saw a special star and concluded that a King had been born in Israel. This announcement alone was enough reason for them to set out on a long journey. It probably took them about 40 days of laborious and dangerous travel to reach Israel. Apparently, worshiping the newly born King was quite important to them!
These wise men from the east did what Psalm 86:9 sings about: “All the nations you have made shall come and worship before you, O Lord, and shall glorify your name”. We are called to do the same, e.g. in Psalm 95:6 – “Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!” We need not literally make a long and dangerous journey. As Jesus explained in John 4, we can worship God anywhere and at any time because God is spirit and thus is not bound to a particular place.
And yet, you can be “far away” from God spiritually. If so, do like the “wise men”: come and worship the King!
