“And He said to them, ‘Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.’” (Matthew 4:19)
God involves people in the spread of the Gospel. When Jesus began His ministry on earth, He called a group of twelve men to be His disciples. These men followed Jesus, were eye witnesses to His miracles and received a lot of teaching. They also saw how He was crucified, rose again after three days, and ascended into heaven. In the book of Acts, we read how these disciples (later called apostles) were witnesses of all they had seen and heard (e.g. in Acts 5:30-32).
That is exactly what Jesus wanted them to do. He wanted them to become “fishers of men”. They should no longer practice their old job as fishers, but lead other people to Christ. The Gospel should be preached everywhere, and all people invited to follow Jesus.
God still uses humans for the spread of the Gospel. Their task is to “declare My glory among the nations” and to “bring all your brothers from all the nations as an offering to the Lord” (Isaiah 66:19-20).
How can you be involved in this?
