“And He went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction among the people.” (Matthew 4:23)
Jesus’ ministry is aimed at people’s well-being: spiritually, emotionally and physically. He preaches God’s Kingdom, and at the same time shows by His miracles what it is like. Jesus’s healing of “every disease and every affliction” gives us an amazing glimpse of the new earth, where “death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore” (Revelation 21:4).
Jesus can heal all kinds of illnesses; He healed “those afflicted with various diseases and pains, those oppressed by demons, those having seizures, and paralytics” (verse 24). Most of all, He came to heal people’s hopeless spiritual situation, often described as “spiritual death”. He has power over natural laws and supernatural forces. He shows mercy for helpless people. Thus, through His ministry, Jesus shows Who God is. God is almighty, He is compassionate, He wants to restore people.
