“Let your Kingdom come.” (Matthew 6:10)
God is King, He is even called “King of kings” and “the ruler of kings on earth”. But not everybody acknowledges and accepts Him as such at present. And even if we do, it can be a recurring challenge to really give God all authority over our lives and accept that He is in charge — and not us.
In the Lord’s Prayer we pray that this will change: in our own lives and worldwide.
We ask God to reign in us, so that we will more and more submitted to Him and live according to His will. We also pray that God will expand His church, protect her and take care of her. The church is the most explicit expression of God’s kingdom on earth. Finally, we pray that God will combat every power that rebels against Him, so that ultimately all evil will be destroyed and God’s kingdom will be complete. Then, everything will be subjected to Him, and God will be all in all (1 Corinthians 15:28).
This is the future hope of the church, and with Jesus’ death and resurrection His Kingdom has already begun. We long for its fulfillment.
Is God’s Kingdom / kingship a reality in your life? How does this make a difference?
