Doing God’s will

Last updated on March 4, 2025

“Let Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” (Matthew 6:10)

We long for God’s will to be obeyed fully and joyfully, as it is in heaven. We know that God’s will is good since God Himself is absolutely and completely good, and therefore we want to obey Him. This often means that we have to forsake our own will, which may want to go in a different direction. Jesus shows the full extent of this. When the time has come for Him to suffer and die, He knows exactly what’s going to happen and He very much wants to avoid it. But even then He prays to God the Father: “Let Your will be done”.
Abandoning our sinful desires and submitting ourselves to God’s will is difficult. We ask for His help. We want to be so filled with His Spirit, that there is no place left for anybody or anything else.
In order to live according to God’s will, we need to know what He wants us to do and what not to do. It is important to study the Bible, and to learn God’s will. Only then can our lives honor Him. Also, we can take God’s Word as our guideline when making important decisions, and pray that the Holy Spirit will direct our lives.
Do you take God’s will seriously in your daily life and when making major decisions? How?
