God is King

“For Yours is the Kingdom, the power, and the glory forever. Amen.” (Matthew 6:13)

The concluding sentence of “the Lord’s Prayer” explains why we direct our petitions to God and nobody else: He has the power over everything, and thus is able to give us all that is good. Moreover, our prayer aims to honor and glorify Him. That is our life’s goal, and the ultimate goal of all creation. It’s all about Him!
With this statement we also acknowledge God as King over our lives. He’s in charge, not we. We live under His guidance — and since God is our loving Father, that is the best place we can think of. And yet, time and again, we tend to put our own wishes and desires first, even when they don’t fit into God’s plan. This prayer helps us to put things in the right perspective and to correct our thoughts and actions.
We confess that God is above all, which is really comforting when we are confronted with evil powers, both human and spiritual, that go against Him. Our God has ultimate control, and His Kingdom will never end. Nothing and nobody can withstand Him or prevent His Kingdom of peace and righteousness from taking over the entire universe. In God we trust!
