“Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?” (Matthew 7:3)
All of Jesus’ teaching in the Sermon on the Mount is about life in the kingdom of God. As children of God, we are already part of God’s Kingdom here on earth. How do we focus on God in our everyday life? And how do we treat others? No one is perfect. So there is always something negative to see and say about each other. In Matthew 7:1-6 Jesus talks about the way we look at others. Do you focus on the part of the other person’s life that you don’t like or that bothers you? Do you forget to look in the mirror? Do you dare to face the fact that you might be a burden to someone else? It’s all right to point out what could be improved in someone else’s life, but do it with a compassionate heart, says Jesus, and not with a judgmental eye. Don’t forget your own weaknesses and dare to be open to criticism about them. There will be much more peace among us if we have this kind of relationship with each other.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, help me to see others and myself with your eyes.
Do you have anything else you would like to tell Jesus about this? Be completely open with Him.
