“All these with one accord were devoting themselves to prayer, together with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and His brothers.” (Acts 1:14)
Jesus’ disciples were met together with Jesus’ mother, several other women and Jesus’ brothers. Jesus had commanded them to wait in Jerusalem (Acts 1:4). We humans find waiting quite tedious at times. We like to quickly receive what has been promised to us. The believers gathered in Jerusalem had no idea how long they would have to wait for the fulfillment of Jesus’ promise (Acts 1:4-5). But they show that waiting need not be passive. And whilst waiting for what God will do, the connection with Him is not broken. With one mind, Jesus’ followers persistently engage in prayer. Prayer keeps you in touch with God. Praying together helps to maintain courage, expectancy, and strengthen your faith. When you are in a “waiting period” in your life, praying together can result in courage and perseverance. Never hesitate to ask another person to pray with you. And if circumstances require you to pray alone, remember: In heaven, Jesus always prays with you.
