The Spirit touches hearts

“Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, ‘Brothers, what shall we do?’” (Acts 2:37)

The people who listened to Peter’s sermon were deeply touched in their hearts. Fifty days before, many of them had cried out for Jesus’ death. But their rejection had not ended Jesus’ life and work. Peter now boldly testified to that. And his words caused a great change in the hearts of his audience. Peter showed them the only way to real joy: to repent and come to Jesus. You can’t and don’t have to do anything by yourself to get a good relationship with Jesus and receive a new life from Him. You don’t have to earn peace with Jesus by first behaving well or making certain sacrifices. Confessing to Him what stands between you and Him is enough. And then Jesus forgives. Believing that this is true, and gladly accepting it, is enough. Then you receive the Holy Spirit. He is going to fill and guide your mind and heart like a new breath of life. He helps you understand the words of the gospel and apply them to your life. He connects you to Jesus every day.

Question: In what ways do you experience the presence of the Holy Spirit in your life? Do you long to experience more of Him? Pray boldly for it!
