The Holy Spirit connects people with each other

“And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts.” (Acts 2:46)

In the Bible, sharing a meal is a sign of friendship and connection. Jesus, before He was to be crucified, had instructed His disciples to continue to remember His suffering and death in the future. They were to do this by eating some bread and drinking some wine at a common meal (Luke 22:14-20). This is what is meant by “breaking bread” in Acts 2:42. As they were together, the mutual unity of the first Christians became apparent. They shared the same desire to learn more of Jesus and put His teaching into practice in their lives. This filled them with joy. No high demands were made of one another; they accepted each other with glad and generous hearts. Being united does not mean having the same opinion on everything. It does mean being one in the desire to serve Jesus. You share this same commitment with others. That was also Jesus’ prayer before His death: “that they may be one, even as we are one.” (John 17:11) In this way, Christians are of great value to one another.
Read: Acts 1:14 and Acts 2:46.
Question: Why do we need each other as Christians? Not every Christian has fellow believers around him or her with whom to share their faith. Pray for Christians in lonely circumstances. Are you a minority in your community as a Christian? Know that others pray for you!
