Jesus the anointed High Priest

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me.” (Luke 4:18)

In our imagination we see Jesus standing in the synagogue, among His peers. He opens the scroll of the prophet Isaiah and reads the text, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me.”

Not too long ago, Jesus stood at the Jordan River to be baptized by John.
As He was being baptized, a voice sounded from heaven; “You are My beloved Son; with You I am well pleased.”

John testified of Him; “I saw the Spirit descend from heaven like a dove, and It remained on Him.”

Centuries ago, the prophet Isaiah had prophesied about Him, and now the time had come for these words to be fulfilled.

There in the synagogue of Nazareth, Jesus applied these prophetic words to Himself.

Jesus the anointed High Priest, He Himself entered the sanctuary with the perfect sacrifice of His blood. Through His sacrifice the way was opened for us to the Father.
Therefore, let us go to God with a sincere heart and the firm confidence that He will receive us. For our hearts have been sprinkled with the blood of Christ, giving us a clear conscience.

What does it mean to you that Jesus is our perfect High Priest?
