The ultimate proof of God’s love

Last updated on November 4, 2025

“In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent His only Son into the world, so that we might live through Him.” (1 John 4:9)

John mentions the coming of God’s Son to this earth as proof of God’s love for us humans.
The Father sent us “His beloved Son with whom He was well pleased” (see Matthew 3:17. He knew beforehand that His Son would be despised, rejected and killed, but He nevertheless sent Him to save us.
Jesus Himself sacrificed so much that there can be no doubt that He loves us deeply. He “emptied Himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.” (Philippians 2:7-8
“Love” can be quite abstract, especially the love of a God whom you cannot see or touch. Sometimes when sad things happen in your life or you see so much misery happen around you, you may wonder whether God really loves us. When that doubt gnaws at you, remember this proof of love. The infinitely great and holy God made Himself small and vulnerable. He became one of us in order to reveal Himself to us. He fought Satan to free us from his clutches. He allowed Himself to be killed in order to give us life.
How do you see that someone loves you? How do you see that God loves you?
