“…so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:10-11).
Jesus was completely obedient to God’s will (Philippians 2:6-7). When He was with the Father, He was always given honour and glory, but did not consider Himself too exalted to be born as a human baby. He submitted to crucifixion as a criminal. But in all of this He remained God’s Son. And because He bore the consequences of sin, and conquered death, God exalted Him to the highest possible position.
In the Bible, a name points to a person’s entire personality. The name given to Jesus reflects the Person of God Himself. This name is mentioned in Philippians 2:11: the Lord. That is the name used for the King of heaven and earth. No one is greater or more powerful than He. Every person will one day acknowledge it: Jesus is Lord! He is the King who has all power, the Only One who restores God’s justice.
The early Christians sang this worship song to Jesus. It is, in part, a future reality because Jesus continues to be rejected by many people. As children of God, we are so convinced of Jesus’ victory that we can already sing about things that are yet to come. I hope that you can join in.
Prayer: Thank You, Father, that I may hold fast to my hope in You through song. I pray that the songs of fellow Christians will strengthen my faith and that my words will encourage others.
Today I want to sing this song for you: Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah (https://youtu.be/K5uwi04ttjA?si=R79lJ4H2LA1iNozX)
