“For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him” (Matthew 2:2b). (In this verse, ‘When it rose’ can also be translated as ‘in the east’.)
After the Magi from the East arrived in the capital Jerusalem, they said that they were looking for the King of the Jews who had been born. For they had seen His star rise in the East and had come to worship Him.
How remarkable this is! Stargazers are reached by the Good News while practising their profession. It is God Himself who reveals to them through His star that the King of the Jews has been born.
Is it possible that these Magi had already been expecting Him for a long time? And that they often studied the starry sky to discover the sign of His coming? In God’s time, their attention was drawn to this special, bright star. And when they saw it, they were extremely delighted.
They hurriedly made preparations for the long journey to Jerusalem. The camels were saddled and loaded. They would be travelling for weeks. But this King was worth it. They wanted to honour and worship Him.
The Magi were led to Jesus in an extraordinary way. Have you ever asked God for a sign? How did God answer your prayer?
