“And being warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed to their own country by another way” (Matthew 2:12).
Their minds still filled with all that had happened that day, the Magi go to sleep. That day, their wish has come true. They had found King Jesus and had been able to worship Him.
The next morning, they make all the preparations to go home again.
Once again, they embark on the long journey, but how different their situation is now.
A heavenly peace has filled their hearts. Together, they discuss which route they will take to travel back to their country. Because God has warned them in a dream not to return to Herod.
In Jerusalem, King Herod waits anxiously for news from the Magi. He has devised a murderous plan. As soon as they tell him where the King is, he will seek Him out and kill Him.
After the Magi depart, an angel of the Lord appears to Joseph in a dream and says, “You must flee, Joseph, with the Child and Mary to Egypt, for Herod is about to search for the Child to destroy Him”. So Joseph flees with Mary and the Child Jesus to Egypt in the middle of the night, where they would live until Herod’s death. Jesus is safe!
Great is thy faithfulness, O God, my Father
There is no shadow of turning with thee.
