“Oh, my Lord, please send someone else.” (Exodus 4:13)
God has called Moses personally, but Moses doesn’t want to fulfill the task God gives him. First, he says he’s not capable. Second, he wants to know in more detail what he should say to the Israelites. Then he objects that the Israelites certainly won’t listen to him, and when God gives him a couple supernatural signs to convince his people, Moses still doesn’t want to go because he is not eloquent.
Although God takes away all his objections, Moses just doesn’t want to go. He knows that the task will be difficult, and he would prefer someone else to do it. But God has called him, and in the end Moses obeys.
Moses is not the only one who feels overwhelmed or unwilling to fulfill his God-given task. The prophets Jeremiah exclaimed: “Ah, Lord GOD! Behold, I do not know how to speak, for I am only a youth” (Jeremiah 1:6). Jonah fled to escape his task. Gideon felt incapable (Judges 6:14).
Are you ready to fulfill whatever task God has in store for you?
