Jesus Christ is the culmination of God’s revelation to humanity

Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son” (Hebrews 1:1-2)

Ever since God created the first humans, He has spoken to them. He had conversations with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. He spoke to Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses and many other believers. He revealed Himself to prophets who communicated His messages of warning, instruction and promises to the people. But “in these last days”, in the final and ultimate phase of God’s self-revelation, God has revealed Himself in His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the Word of God in all its fullness; He brought the last closing word that the world needs to know.

Jesus is not just the last one in a long line of prophets. No, He is the goal and culmination of all previous revelation. He has not only told us about God the Father, but being God Himself, He has shown us the Father in His life and work and words. We will never see God more clearly until we see Him face to face in eternity.

Jesus completed God’s revelation to humanity. We don’t need anything else. There won’t be any new, authoritative revelations till the end of time.

Can you think of some ways in which God’s revelation in Jesus is greater than all His previous ways of speaking to us humans?
