The God of Endurance and Encouragement

Last updated on October 12, 2023

“May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Romans 15:5-6)

The magnificent God of endurance and encouragement amazingly cares about us! We all need encouragement to endure, and our wonderful God gives us both. Jesus said in Matthew 24:13, “But the one who endures to the end will be saved.” And all His children want to be saved!
The word endure comes from two Greek words meaning to remain under. Enduring doesn’t mean trying harder or gritting your teeth – but rather remaining under and in the presence of our holy God, instead of jumping out on our own every time a crisis interrupts our peace. Our safety, peace and joy are all present in the presence of Jesus Christ. Refusing to leave His presence, no matter what hits us, is the joy of enduring.

Psalm 91:1 is a beautiful picture and promise of enduring, “Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.” Just knowing this is a great encouragement!

Reflection: How encouraged are you, knowing that the God of glory, endurance and encouragement cares specifically about you, and is with you as you endure to the end?
