“Nathanael answered Him, ‘Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!” (John 1:49)
The next day Jesus wanted to leave for Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, “Follow Me.” Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. Philip sought out his friend Nathanael and said to him, “We have found him of whom Moses in the Law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” Nathanael was not immediately convinced, wondering : Can anything good come out of Nazareth? Nazareth was an insignificant place. And besides, the Old Testament prophets pointed to the fact that the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem…
Philip urged him to come and see for himself. When Jesus saw Nathanael coming, He said to him, “Here truly is an Israelite in whom there is no deceit.” Nathanael said, “How do you know me?” Jesus answered, “I saw you while you were still under the fig tree before Philip called you.”
With these words, faith was planted in Nathanael’s heart. He declared, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the king of Israel.”
This Bible story shows us that Jesus has us in mind. Even before we seek Him!
