“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” (John 14:27)
Jesus speaks of peace.
When we think of peace, we think of ending wars.
We see the images of destruction and of people fleeing violence.
And we long for peace.
But now Jesus speaks of a peace that the world does not give.
No peace in this world; Isn’t that disappointing?
When we pay attention to Jesus’ words in Matthew 24:7a where He speaks of the end of the world, we read;
“Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.”
So instead of peace, wars will break out.
And, says Jesus, that is only the beginning of the woe.
How will we stand firm when tribulation increases on the earth?
Jesus promises us His heavenly peace. A peace that will not be taken away from us.
So let us not become anxious and worried. For through the tribulation Jesus is with us.
He has promised: “Behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Do you already know that deep peace with God, of which Jesus speaks?
