“And John bore witness: ‘I saw the Spirit descend from heaven like a dove, and it remained on Him.” (John 1:32)
Jesus came from Galilee to the river Jordan, to John, to be baptized by him.
But John strongly protested: “I need to be baptized by You, and do You come to me?”
He knew who Jesus was; The Lamb of God, guiltless, without sin.
John, on the other hand, knew that he himself needed baptism for the cleansing of his sins.
But Jesus answered him, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John baptized Him.
After Jesus was baptized, He immediately arose from the water and the heavens were opened, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming upon Him.
And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with Him I am well pleased.”
John saw and heard this. And he gave testimony that Jesus is the Son of God.
Do you think John thought his ministry was complete when he baptized Jesus and the Holy Spirit descended on Him?
