“Death is swallowed up in victory.” (1 Corinthians 15:54)
In the book of Acts, we read how the early church gathered on the first day of the week. Many Christians worldwide still do, and with good reason! This day is special, since Jesus rose from the dead on a Sunday morning. When believers gather on the first day of the week, they commemorate and celebrate His victory over death and the devil.
In heaven, thousands of angels sing Jesus’ praise. They rejoice that the Lamb who was slain, has now received power and wealth and wisdom and might. We humans have even more reason to celebrate, since Jesus’ resurrection is proof of His power over death, offering us eternal life, and a foretaste of us being transformed into immortal, perfect humans when Jesus returns.
The fact that Jesus conquered death, changes us from “people most to be pitied” into blessed and hopeful people. This fact is worth commemorating and celebrating every week anew!
