“… and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.” (Exodus 2:24)
The Israelites were descendants of Abraham, his son Isaac, and his grandson Jacob. Long before these people even moved to Egypt, the LORD had already made a promise to Abraham: “Know for certain that your offspring will be sojourners in a land that is not theirs and will be servants there, and they will be afflicted for four hundred years. But I will bring judgment on the nation that they serve, and afterward they shall come out with great possessions” (Genesis 15:13-14).
Israel’s present situation was one of affliction indeed, and they were living like sojourners in Egypt. Now God would work out their deliverance, exactly as He had promised centuries before!
Isn’t that amazing and comforting? God knew what would happen to the Israelites, He knows what will happen to his children, He knows what will happen to us personally long before the actual events. Not only that, He also keeps his promises. He doesn’t forget about them, nor does He change His mind. We can rely on his promises of deliverance and salvation.
What does it mean to you, that God is in control?
