“Whatever you ask in My name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.” (John 14:13)
Jesus is preparing His disciples for the time when He will return to His Father. They will then no longer be in His presence.
And yet they can always stay connected to Jesus, by praying in His Name.
He promises them, “If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.”
For by this God the Father is honored.
In John 17:4, where Jesus Himself prays to His Father, it says; “I glorified You on earth, having accomplished the work that You gave Me to do. “
Then He says, “And now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had with you before the world existed.”
Here we see that the Father is glorified in the Son, and the Son in the Father.
For the Father and the Son are one.
Now let’s return to the disciples.
Jesus prays for them and for all who will believe in Him through their word “… that they may all be one, just as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You have sent Me.” (John 17:21).
