“For it is written, ‘He will command His angels concerning you, to guard you’” (Luke 4:10)
With the words, “Depart from Me, Satan!” Jesus repelled the second temptation. But the trial was not over yet.
The devil brought Jesus to Jerusalem and set Him on the highest part of the temple, saying to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down from here, for it is written, ‘He will command His angels concerning You, to guard You,’ and ‘On their hands they will bear You up, lest You strike Your foot against a stone.’”
But Jesus answered him, “It is said, ‘You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’”
The pinnacle of the temple was a perfect place for this dangerous temptation.
Jump down Jesus.
The angels will carry You on their hands, for You are God’s Son, aren’t You?
But Jesus didn’t need this stunt to find out if His Father would protect Him. He held fast to the words of Scripture. “You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.”
After Jesus resisted the devil’s temptations three times, the devil left Him alone. And angels came to serve Jesus.
