“… godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.” (1 Timothy 4:8)
Paul compares faith to athletics: when you exercise, you train your body to stay fit and healthy. In the same way, you can train your faith. This makes you spiritually strong and produces godliness—a way of living that reflects God’s will. Do you notice this in your own life? That Jesus is guiding you on the right path? That you are learning to serve God and your neighbor? That Jesus Christ gives you rest, peace, and joy?
If you are already experiencing this, then you may trust that you will be perfectly happy when He returns. This is God’s promise to those who pursue godliness: a life that will one day be perfect in every way.
It is a gift beyond understanding: that the LORD would give you so much love despite your character, your flaws, and your past.
Such joy can make you want to tell everyone about Him. You will become increasingly aware of how rich you are in Christ—every day—when you take time to meditate on God’s Word. And at the same time, you will begin to see how poor someone is who does not live in union with Jesus. Such a life has no lasting direction and no true future.
Therefore, do your best to be a faithful and reliable witness of the Christian faith!
