“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.” (John 15:12)
Jesus gives His disciples the commandment to abide in His love: “As the Father has loved Me, so have I loved you. Abide in My love.”
How can they abide in His love? Well, Jesus says, “If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.”
The commandment of this love gives peace and complete joy, as Jesus tells His disciples: “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.”
Then He adds, “This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.”
With these words, Jesus pictures His perfect love for His followers.
He gave His life for them.
He bore their sins on the cross and died for them. He rose again and He lives to pray for them always.
A greater love cannot be imagined.
Do you already share in that love?
