“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.” (Revelation 1:8)
The Lord God is the Almighty. He rules the entire world. This is stressed especially in the book of Revelation, which describes in vivid images the horrible consequences of sin and evil in this world and the suffering of God’s people. Against this background, the fact that God is almighty is proclaimed and celebrated. Sin and evil won’t have the last word. The situation on earth won’t get out of God’s control. He is almighty, just and true (see Revelation 15:3). He will judge justly and put an end to death, mourning and pain. He will make all things new.
The statement that God is almighty, does not answer all difficult questions as to why He allows so much evil in this world. However, it does give us firm ground when we suffer. For even if we don’t understand why God is letting certain things happen, we believe that He is in control and that “for those who love God all things work together for good” (Romans 8:28). We need not be afraid that Satan has more power than God, or that God is subject to fate. Instead, we can join the great multitude in God’s presence, crying out, “Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns.” (Revelation 19:6)
How does the belief that God is almighty help you?
