“Jesus said, ‘Go on asking God for what you need. Then God will give it to you. Go on looking for what you need. Then you will find it. Go on knocking at the door, and God will open it for you.’” (Matthew 7:7 EASY)
How do you learn to live as a child of God in His kingdom? How do you keep it up and what is the direction of your life? “Pray,” says Jesus in Matthew 7:7-12. Jesus mentions three ways of doing this: asking (praying), seeking and knocking. There are also three answers: receiving, finding and opening of doors. These are the things we need to live as God’s children. It’s in line with what Jesus said earlier: “Seek first the kingdom of God.” (Matthew 6:32) Every day you can ask God – by asking, by seeking, by knocking – to give you what you need for your life with Him. So that, on the basis of your relationship with Him, you can share with others what you receive from Him. This teaching follows Jesus’ teaching not to judge one another (Matthew 7:1). He returns to this in Matthew 7:12. God lovingly gives us His good gifts. This allows us to treat others with love and share what He gives us – even with difficult people. How can we do this? “Pray,” says Jesus.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You that I can ask You each day for what I need to live as Your child. That you never tire of listening to me. Thank you for opening your heart to me when I knock and letting me find what I need.
