Song of the future

Last updated on December 10, 2025

“… saying with a loud voice: Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing! And I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and in the sea, and all that is in them saying: To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!” (Revelation 5:12-13)

John, author of the book of Revelation, was in exile on the island of Patmos because of the Roman emperor. In the solitude of this island, Jesus showed him through visions a number of things about God’s future plan. During one vision, John heard a multitude of voices calling out about a Lamb. That Lamb is Jesus, the Son of God.
A lamb is a defenceless animal that needs shepherding. In the Bible, a lamb was also a sacrificial animal. However, the heavenly beings speak about the wealth, power, honour and glory of the Lamb. Jesus was not defenceless, but the Lamb who has all power. Jesus did not conquer evil with other evil, but by sacrificing His life (John 1:29).
John heard all of creation joining in the proclamation of praise to the Lamb of God. Heaven and earth are still separate realities. Yet there is already a connection: in heaven and on earth, people praise the Lamb who is victorious. And one day, ‘heaven and earth’ will be unified in praise of Jesus. What a wonderful vision concerning the future!
Prayer: Father, thank You for sending Your Son to redeem the world from sin and death. Thank You, Lord Jesus, for doing the Father’s will. Thank You, Holy Spirit, for connecting us to the Father and the Son. We look forward to the day when we can praise You together with the heavenly choir.
Worthy is the Lamb who was slain …. (Try to find a similar song to sing to the Lord).
