“May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us.” (Psalm 90:17)
Moses observed that our life is only short. It is over in an instant, like a fog evaporating in the sun. In addition, Psalm 90 also talks about the quality of our lives. We humans are also vulnerable in that respect. If God pours out His wrath on us because of our sins, we perish. If He punishes us as we deserve, it is worse than death. What a blessing it is, therefore, that “He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities.” (Psalm 103:10)
Moses knows that God loves us humans and gladly forgives us. Therefore, he dares to ask, “Satisfy us in the morning with Your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.” (Psalm 90:14)
God’s loving presence in our lives brings true joy. We cannot live without it! Whether our lives are long or short, if we are allowed to experience God’s goodness, then life is worth living. In fact, the Lord offers us eternal life that goes beyond death. He wants to deliver us from the hopelessness of a life apart from Him. What a comfort that is as we enter another new year!
Do you long for God’s blessing over your life? Why is that important to you?
