“And all who believed were together and had all things in common.” (Acts 2:44)
Do you ever get really excited about something? Then you are usually eager to share it with others. When the Holy Spirit had come into their lives, something clearly happened in the lives and hearts of the people who came to faith in Jesus, after Peter’s speech. They wanted to know more about Jesus. Therefore, they listened to the eyewitness accounts of His followers. They gathered with other believers to share what they discovered about Jesus and to pray together. And even more happened. Jesus’ new followers also began to share their possessions with one another so that no one was in need. No one was to be excluded from the blessings God had given. Pride, jealousy, selfishness and greed cause division and discontentment. The presence of the Holy Spirit gives a new desire for unity by which people are connected. Thus Jesus’ followers began to put into practice what Jesus had shown them when He washed His disciples’ feet (John 13:13-15). In their care for one another, they served one another, making visible what Jesus’ love for people means.
