“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock”. (Matthew 7:24)
We all look for something to hold on to in life What makes us feel secure? What provides safety? Jesus gives us the example of building a house in Matthew 7:24-29. A house needs a foundation to be able to stand, and life’s foundation is what gives us security. Your life also needs a foundation to be able to withstand whatever may happen. Jesus is basically asking: What foundation do you want to build your life on? What do you want to rely on? Jesus says that anyone who puts his teachings into practice will always have solid ground beneath their feet: no matter what happens, you can always count on Me and My Word. All the chaos and uncertainty in the world, and all the pain and setbacks you might face, can really get you down and cause confusion. But Jesus’ words provide guidance because they are always true and real. But Jesus also says that it’s not enough to just listen to his teachings. You’ve got to put them into practice in your life. That’s what Jesus’ warning is all about. You’ve got to make room for all the lessons He taught in the Sermon on the Mount in your life. Only then will you have a foundation to stand on, and you’ll feel secure and safe.
Prayer: Thank you Lord Jesus, for wanting to be the foundation of my life with Your Word. You are the only one who will never disappoint. Your power and your presence preserve and protect my life.
