”And you shall eat and be full, and you shall bless the LORD your God for the good land He has given you.” (Deuteronomy 8:10).
When believers are blessed by God, it elicits a response. We may ‘praise’ Him for it. The original Hebrew word ‘barach’ used here means ‘to bless’. It may seem strange to you that as believers, we can in turn bless God. Blessing God means that, as His children, we say good things about Him. Blessing God means that we praise and glorify Him for His greatness, His power and His goodness. In Deuteronomy 8, God instructed the Israelites never to forget that they had been delivered from Egypt. They were never to forget how God protected His people and provided daily for their basic necessities. God warned His people not to become proud of what had been done for them as a nation. This was not the result of their own strength and achievement. It was completely the blessing of God’s presence, salvation and power.
It is good to have set times during the day to express your gratitude to God. In this way, we remind each other and ourselves how good, great, loving and faithful He is. How could this work for you? Make a plan!
