Willing and obedient to the LORD

“Morning by morning He awakens;
He awakens my ear
to hear as those who are taught.
The Lord God has opened my ear,
and I was not rebellious;
I turned not backward.”
(Isaiah 50:4-5)

In this passage, Isaiah speaks of the Servant of God. Christians recognize this Servant as Jesus Christ, who was fully willing to do God’s will. He remained obedient and trusted in God, even when He faced unjust suffering. The New Testament recounts the many ways Jesus was mocked and mistreated (see Matthew 26:67; 27:30; Mark 14:65; 15:19).
Jesus’ life and suffering were unique, but they also hold deep significance for us. We will become more and more like Him through the work of the Holy Spirit. You will see this in your own life when you are willing to do God’s will, even when it comes at a great cost. You will experience peace in your heart despite injustice and suffering. You will choose the path of forgiveness over revenge and strive for peace in the face of adversity.
Despite ridicule and abuse, the Servant of God remained faithful. He persevered because He trusted in the LORD. His future was secure in the hands of the almighty Father. Do you share that trust and faith? The Servant endured because He had practiced His faith. He knew: God is on my side. This trust allowed Him to keep going. Do you want to learn that too? Think of the future that God promises you—everything will be made right.
